New Student Welcome and Academic Orientation to take place virtually - Brock University

As the beginning of the Fall Term approaches, thousands of Brock students are invited to kick off their studies by attending the University’s Virtual New Student Welcome and Academic Orientation.

The online event will take place live on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 9 a.m. on the Welcome virtual event platform, where speeches from Interim President Lynn Wells and other members of the Brock community will welcome students and offer key pointers on how they can best maximize their Brock experience.

Wells said attending the event will help students to begin to familiarize themselves with campus life.

“The New Student Welcome is a fantastic way for Brock students to start their term on a high note and to learn about all of the resources available to them as they begin their studies,” she said. “We want students to feel at home at Brock and to know the Brock community is here to support them from their first day on campus to Convocation and beyond.”

There will also be a keynote address from Brock alumnus Adam Shoalts, who will reflect on his time at the University as well as his career as a writer and explorer, while sharing advice with attendees.

After taking in the initial speeches, participants will then virtually take part in Faculty-specific orientations, which Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Academic Brian Power said are an important part of preparing for the transition to post-secondary studies.

“Attending New Student Welcome and Academic Orientation is the best way for students to begin their time at Brock and get their academic year going on the right foot,” he said. “Connecting early on with both their specific Faculty and the larger University community ‎is an enormous advantage when embarking on their new scholarly journey. The supports and knowledge shared in these sessions will prepare students for all aspects of academic endeavour at the University and can chart a path for years of success.”

Following the live event, there will be an online website experience that’s customized by Faculty for each student. The site also offers an opportunity for students who are unable to participate in the live event due to the Rosh Hashanah holiday or other commitments to also access some speeches and resources that were shared.

To learn more about the New Student Welcome and Academic Orientation, students are encouraged to check their Brock email and visit the event’s ExperienceBU page.
