At this year’s Agribition local BBQ team Homestead Smoke Shack won 1st place in the Pork Rib competition.
The team consists of Head Chef Grant Stinson and his wife Leslie Stinson, who live South of Colgate.
This was their first time competing in Agribition, but they have been competing in other competitions since 2019.
Grant Stinson says they were surprised to win 1st place.
“It totally surprised us. It's our first 1st place in any category especially in our home province, and pretty much our home competition..”
Stinson says the 1st place teams all won belt buckles.
“Belt buckles with Agribition engraved on it, and then champion ribs or champion chicken etc.”
And the secret to their winning ribs?
“Well, we've been practicing. Like I said, we practice quite a bit with all our meats that we do. We just got lucky and got the right combination of being cooked properly, to the proper tenderness, proper flavor.”
The Stinsons don’t have more competitions coming up any time soon, but the BBQ season begins again in May.
