USHL's Omaha Lancers place president Dave Deluca on administrative leave - The Athletic

The USHL’s Omaha Lancers placed their president, Dave DeLuca, on administrative leave Saturday following the league's investigation of the team, the league announced Saturday. The investigation began Friday and is still ongoing.

Longtime USHL member Josh Mervis will oversee operations of the Lancers during the course of the investigation. Mervis currently is a minority partner of the Lancers and serves as the Chair of the USHL Competition Committee.

Lancers head coach Chadd Cassidy, assistant general manager Jeff Cox, acting head coach Sean Walsh, assistant and goalie coach Tate Maris and trainer Nick Hart all resigned from the team on Thursday. The mass resignations were triggered after long-simmering tension over massive budget cuts and outbursts by management, which spilled over following a confrontation between DeLuca and a member of the team's coaching staff, sources tell The Athletic.

The players decided to boycott this weekend's slate of upcoming games and as a result, the USHL released a statement saying the Lancers' games this weekend against the Waterloo Black Hawks, Lincoln Stars and Des Moines Buccaneers were postponed, and the league will begin an investigation.

Representatives from USHL and USA Hockey met with Lancers players Friday and players shared their perspectives as a team, in smaller groups and individually. There is an additional meeting scheduled virtually for Sunday morning.
