NPSS Grizzlies Update: Senior girls volleyball place second, Amboe, Schreiner impress in cross country - Alaska Highway News

It was another great weekend for NPSS Grizzlies Athletics! On Friday, October 15, the varsity volleyball teams travelled to Grande Prairie to attend the annual Pow Wow Volleyball tournament.

The Varsity girls competed in an intense weekend of ups and downs demonstrating perseverance. In the semi-finals the girls battled their way to a third set coming back to win 15-11. Demonstrating great court vision at times resulted in strong, smart and structured points.

"On the court there was a lot of joy and appreciation to be playing in close games and earning positive outcomes. NPSS has been building this program for years, and the dedication of the players is starting to pay dividends,” said coach Alex Bacso.

The Varsity senior girls placed second overall at the Pow Wow tournament. All star of the weekend goes to Grace McEachern who demonstrated application of skill development and executing at critical points in the game.

Senior Boys Volleyball

The boys started strong taking the first match in straight sets against St. Joe’s. Game 2 resulted in a three-set win against GP Comp. The Grizzlies ended their last game of the day by dropping straight sets to La Crete, putting them in second place in our pool. The Senior Boys crossover quarter final match was against Sexsmith. The boys came out firing on all cylinders to take both sets and move onto the semis against Glenmary. Glenmary proved to be a challenging opponent taking both sets.

Matching up against John Paul II (JPII) in the bronze medal game, the Grizzlies took the first set handily, and moved into a good position to go for bronze. JPII battled back and took set two. In the third set the boys battled back and forth.  JPII took the last few points of the game winning the bronze. Overall, the varsity boys had a great weekend with many compliments on how well the team has progressed and battled for each point. All-star of the weekend went to Cole Harder.
