Only one point separates the top three teams in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Golden Horseshoe Conference following Saturday night junior-B action.
Liam Galton scored two goals, Dylan Abbamont, Luke Johnston, Ryan McGuire, Thomas Shain and Nolan Underwood one each to give the visiting Hamilton Kilty B’s a 7-4 victory over the Fort Erie Meteors.
Antonio Pugliese, with two; Joseph Macchione and Marcus Regina provided the offence for the Meteors, who were outshot 35-23 and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Kilty B’s did not have an opportunity to score with a man advantage.
Hamilton, 8-1, returned to the win column to move one point ahead of the St. Catharines Falcons, 7-2-0-1, and Niagara Falls Canucks, 7-3-1.
Hamilton has a game in hand on St. Catharines and two on Niagara Falls.
The Kilty B’s host the Welland Jr. Canadians on Monday night at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena and are home to the Thorold Blackhawks next Saturday.
The Meteors are on the road for their next two games: Friday night, at Niagara Falls; Sunday afternoon, in Pelham.
Corvairs 3, Panthers 1
At Caledonia, two unanswered goals, the last into an empty net with two seconds remaining in regulation, carried the hosts past Pelham before an announced crowd of 324 at Haldimand County Caledonia Centre.
Fourth-place Caledonia improved to 5-4-0-1 getting goals from Calvin Crombie, Markus Dempewolf and Mason Mantzavrakos and goaltending from Ethan Langevin, 33 saves in 34 shots.
Jonah Devereux replied with his first goal of the season for the sixth-place Panthers, 2-4-2. Brayden Kelso stopped 33 shots in the loss.
Penalty-killing units excelled for both teams. Caledonia went 1-for-7 on the power play; Pelham, 0-for-8.
On Sunday, Pelham hosted the Thorold Blackhawks, 2-5-1, seventh place; hoping to end a two-game losing slide. Caledonia’s next game is Saturday against the visiting Canucks.
Sunday’s other game on the Golden Horseshoe schedule has eight-place Welland, 2-6, home to Niagara Falls.
Catharines blanked Welland 4-0 at home and Niagara Falls skated past Caledonia 4-1, also at home, in Friday night action.
Andrew MacLean earned his third shutout in seven starts for the Falcons, who got goals from Jonah Boria, Jordan Schanbacher, Nate Robertson and Jagger North.
Ben Felicetti, Tanner McEachern, Alex Campbell and Sam Ostafin found the back of the net for the Canucks. Ethan Doyle scored for the Corvairs.
