Bridgeport, W.V.

- Angelo Giantsopoulos fired a 66 as the Dragons finished fourth at the highly-competitive Health Care Mountaineer Invitational. Giantsopoulos finished third overall and came within two strokes of the Drexel single-round record. Drexel had its best round of the young season, carding a six-under par 282 over the 54 holes at the Pete Dye Golf Club.

The Dragons finished the event just four shots over par. N.C. State won the tournament (-9), just one shot ahead of the hosts from West Virginia. Penn Sate finished third, two shots behind the Wolfpack. The Dragons played well above the other competitors, as they were 12 shots better than the fifth place team at the Pete Dye Golf Club.

Giantsopoulos had one of the best nine hole starts in recent Drexel memory. After his first four holes he was at even par, but then rattled off a birdie, an eagle on the par-4, 337-yard sixth hole and another pair of birdies before settling for par on number nine. He went to the turn at 31, five shots under par. On the back, he made eight pars and had one birdie to finish with his 66. Drue Nicholas, Jeffrey Cunningham and Griffin Mitchell each finished at even-par 72. Nicholas tied for 18th overall at +3. Cunningham was four over in the round at one point, but closed the tournament by making birdie on four of his last seven holes. He tied for 39th (+6).

Mark Goetz of West Virginia had a 63 on Tuesday and was medalist with a 202 (-14). Patrick Sheehan of Penn State was four shots off the lead and four shots ahead of Giantsopoulos.

Drexel is off until Oct. 24 when it plays in the OBX Intercollegiate.
