P.E.I. RCMP issue shelter in place order for Borden-Carleton | Saltwire - SaltWire Network

BORDEN-CARLETON, P.E.I. – Police say an incident that prompted a shelter-in-place warning for Borden-Carleton has been concluded safely.

In a news release issued 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, the East Prince RCMP asked residents of Dickie Road between Route 1 and Route 10 to shelter in place. Residents were told to lock their doors and avoid windows until further information about the ongoing situation is made public. Police asked drivers to avoid the area as well.

About 30 minutes later, P.E.I. RCMP tweeted the issue had been resolved safely and thanked the public for their co-operation.

No more details were made available.

Workers at the nearby Esso noticed the police blocking off Dickie road and saw officers carrying rifles, Bonnie Thompson said.

"Everybody told me the police had it under control. I wasn't really concerned by it at all."

The shelter-in-place order came one day after police in neighbouring New Brunswick were dealing with a bomb threat at UNB in Fredericton. In that case, all UNB campuses were evacuated as per university safety policies and procedures, while police searched for anything considered to be suspicious.

The UNB Fredericton campus remained closed until midnight Sept. 10. The investigation is ongoing.
