Plans for the future of Ontario Place have finally been revealed after closed-door conversations amongst the Provincial government. The iconic Toronto attraction is undergoing substantial renovations. Even though some info was leaked last week, nothing’s been confirmed — until now.
Ontario Place Redevelopment
The redevelopment includes plans to make the attraction open year-round but that’s not all. The 155-acre property will offer a wellness spa, pool, beach space, gardens, and restaurants. There’ll even be an outdoor theme park complete with climbing, zip lines and rope courses.
The government will lease the property to three companies — ThermeGroupe for the spa area, LiveNation who will handle the redevelopment of Budweiser Stage, and ÉcoRécréo Group will build one of the theme parks that it’s known for.

Budweiser Stage
Live Nation’s state-of-the-art amphitheatre will continue to host world-class artists and bands. Sustainability is top of mind with this revamp. The company is implementing strategies that support energy savings, water efficiency, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“The redevelopment of the amphitheatre into a year-round venue will offer fans more opportunities to celebrate the live music experience with their favourite artists,” said Riley O’Connor, Chairman, Live Nation Canada. “We’ve been making memories on Toronto’s waterfront at Budweiser Stage for more than 25 years and we look forward to the next 25 years of music history.”
The live music venue will be turned into a modern, year-round, live music and performance venue with 20,000 outdoor capacity and 9,000 indoor.
Therme Group Wellness Spa
The well-being resort will be designed by Austrian-based Therme Group. And it won’t only include the addition of a wellness spa. There will also be outdoor parks and gathering spaces, trails and promenades, gardens, beaches, and sports and recovery facilities constructed.

In a release, the government said, “Therme offers a natural urban oasis where people can have fun, relax, and unwind from their busy lives, and promotes physical and mental health as part of a sustainable lifestyle.”
Ontario Place will finally go back to being one of the city’s top attractions once it’s all completed. When will that occur, you ask? The adventure park is slated to open in 2024 and the revamped Budweiser Stage in 2030. However, there are no firm dates set for the other parts of the renovation, as you can imagine it’s a massive undertaking and these three contracted companies will likely be working closely to ensure continuity and cohesiveness.
The release continued, “The new exclusive attraction site at Ontario Place is expected to entertain over 500,000 visitors per year by 2030.”
