UFV talk looks at Indigenous place names and hiking in Fraser Valley - Agassiz Harrison Observer

The Peace and Reconciliation Centre (PARC) and the College of Arts at University of the Fraser Valley present their next peace talk on Tuesday, July 13.

The event starts at runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The topic is Indigenous Place Names and Hiking in the Fraser Valley: How Do We Engage in Ethical Recreation?

Keynote speaker is Stephen Hui, bestselling author of Destination Hikes. He has been hiking, backpacking, and scrambling in B.C.’s Coast Mountains for more than 25 years.

His first book, 105 Hikes in and Around Southwestern British Columbia, was a No. 1 B.C. bestseller. Hui’s third book, Best Hikes and Nature Walks with Kids in and Around Southwestern British Columbia, is forthcoming.

Panelists for the talk are Dr. Sonny Mchalsie, Sto:lo historical researcher and cultural interpreter, and Kelly Pearce, program director of Hope Mountain Centre.

Host and moderator is professor Keith Carlson, PARC director.
