Phillies place Aaron Nola, three other players on COVID-related IL - Sportsnet.ca

The Philadelphia Phillies have placed four players, including ace Aaron Nola, on the COVID-related Injured List, the team announced on Sunday.

Along with Nola are infielder Alec Bohm and pitchers Connor Brogdon and Bailey Falter.

In corresponding moves, pitchers Damon Jones, Mauricio Llovera and Christopher Sanchez, as well as infielder Nick Maton, have been called up from triple-A Lehigh Valley. Philadelphia plays the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon, a game which Nola was scheduled to start.

According to Matt Gleb of The Athletic, the Phillies are one of seven teams that have not reached the 85 per cent vaccination threshold required for teams to loosen COVID-19 protocols.

Nola last pitched on July 6 against the Chicago Cubs, allowing four runs on six hits with eight strikeouts for the win. He has a 4.53 ERA over 101.1 innings pitched this year.

Bohm, in his second MLB season, has a .243 batting average with 41 RBIs.

Brogdon has been a reliable reliever for Philadelphia, with a 4.19 ERA over 34.1 innings this season. Falter has pitched just 17.2 frames in relief, good for a 4.58 ERA in his first major-league season.
