The San Francisco Giants placed All-Star catcher Buster Posey on the 10-day injured list Friday after an MRI revealed a bone bruise in his left thumb, they announced.
The IL stint is retroactive to July 6. Posey, 34, was recently selected to his seventh All-Star Game as the starting catcher for the National League. He is slashing .328/.421/.547 with 12 home runs and 28 RBIs in 58 games.
Posey, who last played on Sunday, said he won't travel to Denver for the All-Star Game.
"My thumb just isn't in a place where I can catch or hit," he said. "I wasn't going to drag four kids there. My two oldest were pretty excited about going, so it's a bummer. But it is what it is."
The Giants added right-handed pitcher Logan Webb, who was on the IL, to the active roster.
