In September 2017, Brittany Altomare broke onto the international golf scene with a runner-up finish at the Amundi Evian Championship. With rain pouring down and border-line frigid temperatures, Altomare returned a bogey-free 66 on Sunday to jump into a playoff with Anna Nordqvist, who ultimately took the title on the first extra hole.
Nearly four years later and Altomare is again putting together a strong performance at Evian Resort Golf Club. Her 7-under 65 on Saturday, tied for the second-lowest round of her career, vaulted her from a tie for 40th into a tie for 16th heading in Sunday’s final round.
“I think it's so beautiful here and I'm always so happy to be here,” said Altomare, who missed just two greens. “The course is difficult, but I think if you go in with a good attitude, I've always told myself good things will happen. That's what I always try to do.”
Altomare has extra reason to smile beyond just her strong play this week. Following the completion of the major championship, she is driving to Italy to see her wedding venue for the first time. Altomare and fiancé Steven Stanislawzyk had to postpone the festivities from October 2020 to October 2021 due to the pandemic. And she absolutely beamed when talking about finally getting closer to the big day, a moment she feels like she’s been planning forever.
“I really wanted to do a small family wedding, so I figured we go someplace that's more likely to happen,” said Altomare. “You know, I'm excited to spend time with both sides of the family, finally together in one place. I think it has been a crazy year and a half, so it'll be nice to spend some time with family for an extended period of time.”
