Padres place RHP Dinelson Lamet (forearm) on IL - National Post

The San Diego Padres placed right-hander Dinelson Lamet on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to forearm fatigue in his pitching arm.

Lamet departed Saturday’s 10-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks after 2 1/3 innings due to the injury.

Right-hander James Norwood was recalled from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move.

Lamet, who turns 29 next month, has pitched just 34 1/3 innings this season due to arm issues. He is 2-3 with a 3.67 ERA in 11 outings (nine starts).

He was brought along slowly this season after injuring his elbow in his final regular-season start in 2020. He opted for offseason rehab instead of reconstructive surgery.

Lamet began the regular season on the injured list and was activated to start against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 21. But he departed after two innings with forearm pain and was put back on the IL the following day.

His next appearance for the Padres occurred on May 4.

Lamet previously underwent the Tommy John procedure in April 2018 and missed nearly 15 months before returning for the second half of the 2019 season. That experience was part of the reason why he was reluctant to undergo another reconstruction.

Lamet served up two homers in Saturday’s loss while allowing four runs and six hits.

Lamet finished fourth in National League Cy Young balloting last season when he went 3-1 with a 2.09 ERA in 12 starts.

Norwood appeared in two games for the Padres earlier this season, combining for one scoreless inning.
